What type of school is Collins Academy?Collins Academy High School is a small, college-prep high school that opened in September 2007 with 140 freshmen. We will add one grade every year until we reach capacity (500 students in grades 9-12). Who can apply to Collins Academy High School? Collins Academy will accept applications from 8th graders from in Chicago. What is the application process? All applications must be filled out completely (including a signature from both the student and the parent/guardian) and must be submitted in person by the student or parent/guardian ONLY no later than 4:00pm on March 14, 2008 either at an Open House/Information Session or at our school at 1313 S. Sacramento Drive (Main Office in Room 318). Will my grades or test scores be used to consider my application? No. Collins Academy is a non-selective enrollment neighborhood school of choice. We do not consider grades, test scores, special education status, or any other performance criteria for admission. If 150 students or less apply, every student who submits a completed application will be admitted. If more than 150 students apply, students will be selected by lottery. What is the application deadline? March 14, 2008 @ 4:00 p.m. Our school office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Can I mail my application to the school? No. Applications must be submitted in person by the student or parent/guardian only. Faxed, mailed or emailed applications will not be accepted. Incomplete applications will not be considered. What if my sibling already attends Collins Academy? Collins Academy is open to students from all across Chicago, with a preference towards students who have siblings at our school. When will I be notified if I am accepted? Notification letters will be mailed on March 21, 2008. Families must respond in person by April 11, 2008. |
