New Tardy Policy

Starting March 16, 2009, there is a change in the Collins Academy High School Tardy Policy.  Students who are tardy to school will no longer receive an automatic after-school, hour-long detention.  Instead, they will receive an automatic, 45-minute lunch detention to be served on the day of the tardy.

The purpose of this change is to decrease the number of students who end up with In-School Suspension (ISS) and miss out on a day of classes because they have not served their after-school detention due to being tardy to school.  In addition, this change will prevent students from missing out on after-school programs (like After-School Matters, Policy Debate, and athletics) due to being tardy to school.

The Collins Academy High School Administrative Team believes this change in policy will reduce tardies to school overall, since students will miss the social time of being in the cafeteria with friends for lunch.  The reduction in tardies to school, while minimizing time out of class, is the goal of this change in policy.  For questions about this change in policy, please see Mr. Smith, Dean of Students @ (773) 534-1662.
